A Fresh Start: Rebuilding the ZGuy Website

We spend most of our time building software for other people. So when it came time to rebuild our own website, we wanted to practise what we preach: ship fast, keep it simple, and make it work.

Why We Rebuilt

Our old site ran on WordPress with the Divi theme. It served us well for years, but it had become sluggish, hard to update, and didn't reflect the kind of modern web development work we do for our clients. We wanted something that matched the quality of the products we ship.

The Tech Stack

We chose Next.js with the App Router for server-side rendering and static generation. Tailwind CSS handles the styling with custom CSS variables for light and dark mode support. The site is hosted on Vercel for fast global delivery, and Cloudflare Turnstile protects the contact form without annoying CAPTCHA puzzles.

What Changed

The new site loads significantly faster. Every page is server-rendered with proper metadata, structured data, and Open Graph tags for SEO. The contact form now supports three different inquiry types (quotes, general inquiries, and partnerships) with a step-by-step flow that makes it easy to provide the right information upfront.

We added proper security headers, Content Security Policy, rate limiting on the API, and analytics tracking to understand how visitors interact with the site.

Built the Way We Build for Clients

This project was a good reminder that the same principles we apply to client work apply to our own: understand the problem, pick the right tools, ship something that works, and iterate from there.
